About nine years ago I found myself in Penn Station in New York City waiting for a train to Florida. I was looking through the bookstore for a good historical novel when a strange man approached me. He asked me if I liked history and I told him I did to which he replied "Read this book. If you love it, great! If you don't you'll never see me again." That book was 'The Pillars of the Earth' and it is my absolute favourite book ever! I am hooked on your novels and all thanks to a stranger. Thank you for your wonderful stories!

I don't claim to have read all of your books, in fact I have only read 'Whiteout'. However it made a big impact on me and to date is the benchmark which I compare all other books to.

I am 15 years old and hope to become a writer one day. Therefore I found the Masterclass pages on the web site both useful and interesting. Thank you - I believe I learnt more in ten minutes then from over a decade of English lessons: although my teacher was not amused when I pointed this out to her.

My parents recommended 'The Pillars of the Earth' to me and my brand new paperback copy lies expectantly upon my desk. I will leave now to go and begin it. I am confident that I shall love it and I am already looking forward to the sequel.

I was surfing the net looking for something else when I stumbled upon your web site. I can now add your web site to the list of your work that I have read. I have read everything that you have published in your own name and at least 80% of what you published earlier under other names.

Living in Brazil does not afford me the luxury of large, English language bookstores on every corner so I have learnt over the years the advantage and enjoyment of re-reading novels if they are good enough. Well yours are certainly in that category. As I said I have read all your books and with three exceptions (Lions, Eagles and a Place called Freedom which I do not own but have read other people's copies) I have read every other book at least four times. Congratulations on your work, I am looking forward to your next success.

'Whiteout' is very powerful in its conflicts between strong and weak characters; not only in the physical sense but also as emotionally and ethically weak and strong human beings.
