The Pillars of the Earth video game


The Pillars of the Earth was published as an interactive game by Daedalic Entertainment, part of Bastei Lübbe, publishers of the German editions of Ken’s books, in 2017.

The game includes over 200 hand-painted backgrounds over which animated sprites interact. There are three different playable characters – Jack, Aliena and Philip.

The game was produced by Matt Kempke and Caspar Michel, with art direction by Simone Grünewald. The soundtrack was produced by Tilo Alpermann. The score was recorded in Prague by FILMhaormnic Orchestra, while medieval choral elements were recorded in Berlin-Pankow's Hoffnungskirche.

It features a full voiceover, featuring Glen McCready as Philip, Naomi Sheldon as Aliena and Cody Molko and Alex Jordan as the young and adult Jack and With a special appearance by Ken Follett as the voice of the Cantor.

Book 1 – From the Ashes, was published on 16 August 2017, Book Two – Sowing the Wind, on 13 December 2017, and Book 3 – Eye of the Storm on 29 March 2018.

The Pillars of the Earth trilogy is available on PS4, Xbox One, macOS and Windows. Book 1 – From the Ashes is also available in Apple iOS for iPhone and iPad. It is available in eleven languages: Chinese (simplified and traditional), Danish, English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, and Spanish.
